Responsibility! What’s That?

BEAU KNOWS…Responsibility

mxpx showI am sure I will have a ton of posts on here about MxPx.  They are one of my favorite bands of all time!   And they will be in Southern California this weekend with Five Iron Frenzy and Slick Shoes up at The Observatory in Santa Ana.   They are recording both nights for a new DVD.  I wanted to go to the Saturday night show but these tickets sold out quick!   Ok, I got a little side tracked…so the reason for this post is the song “Responsibility” off MxPx’s full length album The Ever Passing Moment from the year 2000.  Not my favorite song on this Elvis Costello inspired record, but the song that A&M Records chose to be the single.  It’s catchy as hell, especially the chorus so I can see why they ran with it.  My favorite part is the melody of the bridge and when lead singer Mike Herrera belts out:

I’m still young and I’d like to stay that way

‘Cause growing up won’t make everything okay
I’m still young and I’d like to stay that way
I’ve got a voice and I’ve got a lot to say
I’ve got a lot to say. . .

That melody breaks up the cheesiness of the rest of the song and wins me over.   This song was on my mind recently because the AP Music Awards were this week and Simple Plan performed.  They closed their three song set with a cover of “Responsibility” and Mike joins them on stage to sing along.  A very cool moment!  Here is the clip (start at 6:21):

MxPx is an awesome live band.  I hope everyone has a blast at their shows this weekend and try to get in front of the camera as much as possible!  Who knows, maybe I will head up there and try to scalp some tickets (sorry Amy, we are going to a punk rawk show this weekend!)  I wish I could be there and I am sure “Responsibility” will be on their set lists.   It was the anthem of my 20s.  Responsibility, what’s that?!?
